Website OS Checker

Identify the underlying operating system and web server technology of any website by analyzing its HTTP response fingerprint.

Enter domain name (e.g., google.com) or full URL

How does OS detection work?

Webservers often leak information about their underlying platform in HTTP response headers. By analyzing the Server, X-Powered-By, and Via headers, we can distinguish between Linux (Nginx, Apache) and Windows (IIS, ASP.NET) environments with high confidence.

Common Server Signatures

Linux Signatures

Often indicated by Nginx, Apache, LiteSpeed, or PHP headers. Popular distros like Ubuntu or Debian may also appear in the server string.

Windows Signatures

Key indicators include Microsoft-IIS, ASP.NET versions, or explicit Windows Server versions in the response headers.

Why hide your OS?

Revealing your exact OS and server version (e.g., "Apache 2.4.41 (Ubuntu)") gives attackers specific targets for known vulnerabilities (CVEs). It is a security best practice to configure your server to hide or genericize these banners.

Use our HTTP Headers Checker to see exactly what your server is broadcasting to the world.
